Monaco and Brest have been on the receiving end of a dramatic comeback victory, as Monaco beat Brest 2-1 at the Stade de France on Saturday night.
The match was one for the ages, with both teams fighting to come back from their own goal. However, Monaco's winner came from a penalty shootout after Brest failed to convert their penalties.
Monaco's header by Dusan Vukovic gave them the lead, but they were unable to maintain possession until a stunning save from goalkeeper Jérémy Ménard prevented Brest from scoring any more goals.
"It was a tough game," said Monaco captain Mathieu Debuchy. "But we fought hard and kept our heads up. We knew that it was going to be a tough challenge."
Brest responded with a brace of their own, thanks to goals from defender Christian Pulisic and midfielder Kieran Trippier.
However, Monaco's heroics were not enough to prevent the Blues from coming back from behind. With just under 5 minutes left on the clock, Brest scored again, this time through a powerful strike from defender Yannick Carrasco.
Despite Monaco's efforts, Brest could not find the back of the net, leaving the scoreline unchanged at 2-1.
"I'm very proud of what we did tonight," said Monaco manager Didier Deschamps. "We played well and defended well. I think we deserve all credit for how we played today."
Monaco will now look to continue their impressive form against Brest next week in the Premier League. The two sides have met before, with Monaco winning both games in the league so far this season.
"We're looking forward to the next game and hopefully we can keep this momentum going," said Monaco captain Mathieu Debuchy.
Overall, it was a thrilling encounter between two of the most exciting teams in European football. While Monaco may have lost, they showed great resilience and determination to come back from a deficit.
