LILLE, France (AP) - Forward Jonathan David has renewed his contract with Lille and will remain at the club until 2026, according to the French side's official website on Monday.
David, who is currently in international duty for the United States, joined Lille from Monaco last summer after scoring 18 goals in all competitions during the previous season. He was also named the top scorer in the French league in 2019-20.
In addition to the salary increase, David's contract includes a bonus of €2 million ($2.4 million), which would be paid if he scores 20 goals or more each season between now and 2027.
The 22-year-old forward has already scored six goals this season for Lille, helping the team to fourth place in the league standings. He has also been called up to the U.S. national team for upcoming friendlies against Canada and Mexico.
"Jonathan has made a great start to the new campaign," said Lille coach Christophe Galtier. "He is a key player for us and we're delighted that he'll be staying with us for another two years."
David's decision to sign a new contract with Lille is a positive development for the French club, which is looking to maintain its position as one of Europe's top clubs in the coming seasons. The striker's contract extension comes just weeks after Lille signed midfielder Anthony Martial on a four-year deal.
Overall, it seems that David's future with Lille looks bright, and the club will continue to build on their impressive performance in recent seasons.
